Target Insurance Services, Inc. was founded in 1982 as the successor corporation to Louis J. McAvoy and Associates.
Louis J. McAvoy, a personal producing career agent, established Louis J. McAvoy and associates in 1964 as a General Agency with at the time a Kansas City based life insurance company, National Fidelity Life. National Fidelity Life evolved into one of the early brokerage insurance companies focusing on impaired risk coverage. From Louis’s relationship with National Fidelity Life he moved his agency ahead into the early years of life insurance brokerage. Target Insurance Services, Inc. was founded in 1982 with Matt McAvoy, Louis’s son. Louis McAvoy assisted in establishing the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA) and served as a board member on its first board of directors. Target Insurance Services, Inc. is a founding member agency of NAILBA and is a member of Brokerage Resources of America (BRAMCO), the leading life brokerage distribution association of agencies.
Target Insurance Services, Inc. continues to be family owned and operated. Main office for Target is located in Overland Park, Kansas. There are over 25 staff members to assist in the service to the consumers at Target. We are proud of the way our agents view working with us. Most agents/brokers feel we provide exemplary service and assistance in developing their work with them. We think our offices’ work effort, determination and willingness to assist an agent in whatever it takes for that person to make a sale distinguishes us from our competitors. Processing volumes of term insurance requires the proper team coordination and a can do customer service attitude. Granted, we are not at 100% in our service demands but the staff certainly takes every effort to assist our customer, the broker. The producer feels this commitment and when problems do arise the agent recognizes we are trying to be their advocate.
Within our core company relationships, we are in the top tier of production with each producing company.
We selectively work with certain companies based on financial integrity, product pricing, agent and agency service standards, commitment from senior management to the life brokerage distribution channel and integrity of past dealings with the consumer. We think we offer the best of the brokerage life companies in the term business without creating redundant offerings. If a new player emerges in the life distribution market, we seek out contracting if it complements our existing relationships. Many brokerage companies have similar functionality and for that reason we have limited our main life production to First Colony Life, Lincoln Benefit Life, Banner Life, First Penn-Pacific, United of Omaha and Manulife. Other companies we represent for fixed life niche underwriting and product include sun Life, US Financial, Prudential, General American, and State Life of Indiana. Again, we feel we meet virtually all the agents' term and permanent needs with the above referenced markets.
Target Insurance (and/or one of its owners) is licensed in all fifty states and has a satellite office in Springfield, Missouri.
